How to Take Control of Your Google Contacts (Step-by-Step Guide)
Isn't it enough to know how to access your Google Gmail contacts page?
To keep your contact list up to date, you must also know how to manage your contacts!
In this part, I'll teach you all you need to know about managing your contact group:
1. How Do You Add Contacts to Your Gmail Account?
In Gmail, there are two methods to create a new contact, and I'll cover both in this section:
A. How Do You Add Contacts Using Google's Contacts Page?
Here's how to use the Google Contacts page to add Gmail contacts:
step 1: Go to Google Contacts and click on the Contacts tab.
step 2: On the upper left, click the Create Contact option.
step 3: When you click Create Contact, you'll be given the choice of adding a single contact or a group of contacts.
Note: I'll make a single contact for this article. If you wish to add numerous contacts, you may do so by typing their names and email addresses into the box or by using a CSV file.
step 4: As seen in the picture below, an empty contact form will display. You may now fill in your updated contact information.
You may also name the contact to put it in a particular Gmail group, such as School or Work. This is how a finished form appears:
step 5: Simply click Save after you're finished, and the contact will be added to your list.
B. What Is the Best Way to Add Contacts from an Email?
This technique is a quick and simple way to add someone to your contact list from your email inbox. Here's how to go about it:
step 1: Hover on an email in your Gmail inbox until this dialog box appears, displaying the contact's name and email address.
step 2: The individual will be added to your Google contact list when you click the Add to Contacts button.
You'll notice the opportunity to modify the person's contact if you've previously added them to your contacts list.
That's how simple it is to import contacts from your Gmail account!
2. How Do You Add Labels to Contacts in Gmail?
Maintaining an orderly email list necessitates categorizing contacts.
Gmail allows you to establish groups and identify these contacts with a common contact group name so that you can easily send an email message to all members of your group.
That isn't all, however.
You may also add several labels to a single contact and group them together.
For instance, if you have distinct email groups for marketing and sales but only one manager in charge of both, you may add the manager to both the marketing and sales distribution lists.
Note that adding a contact to a new Gmail group differs from adding a contact to a Google group. Google Groups is a discussion forum for individuals with similar interests.
To label contacts in Gmail, follow these steps:
step 1 : Go to Google Contacts and click on the Contacts tab.
step 2: Make a list of the contacts you'd want to label. By hovering over their contact and clicking the checkbox that displays above the contact symbol, you may accomplish this.
step 3: To make a new label, go to the top of the page and click the labels button.
step 4: Select Create Label from the drop-down option that displays.
step 5: Click Save after entering a label name.
That's all there is to labeling contacts!
The Labels tab on the left sidebar allows you to access your labels.
3. How Do You Handle Duplicate Contacts in Your Address Book?
Duplicate contacts may be inconvenient since they clog up your contact list.
Thankfully, Gmail can remove any duplicates from your contact list automatically.
All you have to do now is a request that Gmail clears it up for you.
Let's have a look at how to get rid of duplicates in your Gmail contact list:
1. Go to Google Contacts and click on the Contacts tab.
2. On the left sidebar, click the Merge & Fix icon.
If you have any duplicate contacts, Gmail will show you a number next to them.
In my contacts list, I have 50 duplicates.
3. Gmail will show you each duplicated item on the Merge & Fix page.
You may choose to Merge all, which will remove all duplicate entries.
Alternatively, you may combine or delete duplicates one at a time. Both items in your contact list will remain if you dismiss a duplicate.
4. How Do You Remove Contacts From Your Gmail Address Book?
Keeping old and out-of-date contact information in your contacts list simply adds to the clutter.
Here's how to keep your contacts page up to date by deleting outdated contact information:
1. Go to Contacts in Gmail.
2. Hover your mouse over the contact you wish to remove and choose the three dots on the right.
3. Select Delete from the drop-down option that displays.
When the confirmation box appears, choose Delete once more.
Note Select contacts by clicking on their display images if you wish to remove several contacts at once. Then, from the three dots at the top, choose delete.
